"We are taught that education is both a privilege and a human right, which idea comes first instinctively and in importance depends on who you talk to. As a powerful tool for social, economic status and mobility, when engaged with education, how does our identity occupy, evolve and embody this space?
As a student, we embody education with the Graduate Cap, featuring attributes of a brick layer’s tool to a foundation for refugee, a climber’s resilience, and a colouring of equality, intelligence and serious formality; the Graduate Cap is a symbol of commitment, transition and crowning celebration.
My designs are a rebirth of the Graduate Cap as a tapestry of the human while being the role and life of a student. Inspired by Chinese Paper Cutting Art and decorative embellishment, I materialise our individual language of self-cognition as illustrations of our preferences, memories and values, an effortful act which can’t be excluded when experiencing the spiritual battlefield of multifaceted growth."
