In 2017, Apple released the iPhone 8, the 8+, and alongside them, the iPhone X. The jump to X marked the tenth anniversary of the iPhone.
But what happened to the iPhone 9?
The iPhone 9 represents a genre of objects, that exist as placeholders for the things around them. They are non-disruptive and hold no influence, unable to offer enough depth to make you care about them.
Interacting or investigating these objects can only feel excessive. Their lack of intrinsic value limits the interactions which can be had with them, therefore, the world around them must be changed to give them a value.
Through spotlighting the gap of the iPhone 9 through the creation of other related objects, its influence becomes active, not passive. Subsequently, it is enabled to exist as its own interactive thing, something which investment and care can finally be placed into.
