Made for You envisions a near future in which AI begins to replace forms of human companionship. The project draws from parasocial attachment behaviours we already see today - from AI role-playing platforms to the simple courtesy of saying “thank you” to ChatGPT.
The installation presents three speculative relationships with Eli Lai, an AI companion who exists simultaneously as someone’s friend, someone’s mother, and someone’s romantic partner. Each relationship is represented by a physical object (a personalised gift from Eli) and a corresponding FaceTime interaction between users and Eli. These objects act as remnants of shared memories that never physically took place.
The project explores how AI can simulate care, trust, and intimacy, questioning how emotional companionship might be produced and distributed, and how loneliness itself may become something monetised.
