AREN’T YOU GLAD TO BE A PANSY journeys through the mediums of garment design and visual communication to ask the question, “How can you subvert the concept of masculinity, and the societal expectations that follow?”
A retelling of the masculine standard, sitting within that scale of core defiance, and celebrates the uniqueness of the queer individual, acting to perturb the standard of what it means to be masculine. To laugh in the face of conformity.
A mashup, collage, and entanglement of historical menswear and masculine archetypes that act as placeholders, the garments transforming into characters that become a parody of machismo. Aiming to subvert the masculine uniform.
Through fashioning the queer self and dismantling the politics of masculinity, this project looks to challenge the dismissal of femininity and emotional composure of masculine culture. Becoming an allegory for the art of queer expression, celebrating queer liberation.
