Shared Rhythms of Care

Repositioning ironing as a radical response to consumerism and loneliness.
We live in an age of isolation, where every action is carried out as an individual task and connections evaporate quicker, as individuals don’t make time to form them anymore. We live in a rushed world where opportunities are infinite and where we are expected to reach for everything at once.
How can the role of togetherness bring us to a communal stillness? An ephemeral suspension of our everyday roles, a disruption in any formal structure. A state where any instinct of wanting to compare ourselves, our status, our ranks, to someone else, vanishes and is instead replaced by a feeling of egalitarian solidarity, your ego is relieved. This concept is known in anthropology as a state of 'Communal Liminality'.
In a world where it's easier to buy something new than to take care of what we already have, ironing becomes a quiet act of resistance.
I explored how this concept can occur in a physical form through a shared ritualising of a domestic task: ironing.
The invitation is simple, find two other people and come iron together!
